The Story Behind the Scent

During the years I travelled frequently between Saigon and Bangkok, the city’s humid heat became unmistakable to me. At Chatuchak Market there were ripe mangoes, fresh citrus and pomegranate juice, and jasmine garlands laid on bamboo trays. Beyond the stalls, traffic fumes and hot rubber mingled with the air. I did not want to erase that roughness and leave only a sweet tropical fantasy. Bangkok Noontime brings fruit, jasmine, ylang-ylang, kaffir lime and basil into contact with a faint smoky edge, settling into Siam benzoin. Vivid, crowded and impossible to forget.
